Latvia–Russia border
Latvia–Russia border is the state border between Latvia and Russian Federation. The length of the border is 214 km. The access-restricted Border Security Zone of Russia lies along the border on the Russian side. In order to visit this zone, a permit issued by the local FSB department is required (the only exceptions are international border transit points).

Pskov region and Latvia historical tradition since the founding of the Republic of Pskov in the 13th century.〔Янин В. Л. Административное устройство Псковской земли//Новгород и Литва. Пограничные ситуации XIII—XV веков. — М., 1998〕 From 1920 to 1944 a part of the territory of Pskov (including Pytalovo) was assigned to Latvia. In the 1990s - 2000s. on the basis of the Treaty of Riga in 1920 Latvia claimed the territory of Pskov Oblast (Latvian: Abrenes apriņķis). In 2007 the treaty on the Russian-Latvian state border was signed and ratified, and Pytalovo rayon remained part of Russia.
